Plastic soup – not suitable for the menu
Soup is delicious and nutritious. Soup filled with fresh ingredients is a pure and healthy dinner. That’s not the case with plastic soup. You’ve probably hear about it. But what is it really and why do we keep bringing it up?
Plastic soup is the plastic pollution floating around in the oceans and seas, both on and below the surface. It concerns all shapes and sizes of plastic, from large as barrels, fishnets and bottles, to the smallest pieces, also known as micro plastics. These micro plastics occur mainly in most personal care products such as scrubs and toothpastes. The problem of plastic is that it doesn’t decompose. Plastic remains plastic. The result is that plastic is really everywhere, even ending up in our own food chain. Yes, there goes your appetite.
But why does Kaerel care? Well, Kaerel is actually just a tree hugger. He loves plants, bees and critters. And since the earth consist out of oceans and seas for most part, you understand that we care. Let’s face it: without nature, humanity is nowhere. And also, not unimportantly, what a hassle to remove a plastic bag off of the tip of your board every time you’re surfing and get caught up in a plastic bag. And just when you’re making a dive in search of beautiful sea turtles and colorful coral, you only see plastic in all colors of the rainbow.
Let’s get moving! To start, we only use plant oils and extracts for our products. No micro plastics for Kaerel! To do this, we also have the ‘ Look for the Zero Micro plastic ‘ logo retrieved from The Plastic Soup Foundation. In addition, we donate 1% of our turnover to The Plastic Soup Foundation. They are actively engaged in the fight against the plastic soup and we are just happy to contribute.
Critics may have already noticed that our packaging is plastic. You are absolutely right! And we’re working hard to change it. That is why we are searching every day to find possibilities to replace the current packaging with recycled plastic. Any ideas? Let us know! The current tubes are still suitable to be recycled. So be a man and throw your empty Kaerel products in the recycle plastic bin.
One more thing. Are you always messing around with a plastic bag at the supermarket too? Hold your horses. From now on you will find beautiful bio linen bags by Kaerel in our webshop. No more excuses!
